Miss Universe winner Nel-Peters trains woman in self-defence after attempted hijack

Prior to have been crowned Miss Universe 2017, South African beauty queen Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters have been training women in self-defense, following a robbery and an attempted hijacking at gunpoint back in June. The 24-year-old was held up by three armed men on Jan Smuts Avenue in Hyde Park, Johannesburg when a good samaritan came to her rescue and drove her away from the scene. Her car and handbag were later recovered at the scene by a security company. While the police continue to investigate the case, Nel-Peters did not hold back. Hence, she developed a program to train women in self-defence. [embed]https://twitter.com/MissUniverse/status/935009617150582785[/embed] Competing against 92 other contestants of different countries from around the world, the recently graduate in business management, was crowned at The AXIS theatre in Planet Hollywood casino-resort on the Las Vegas Strip. During the grand finale, the final five contestants were asked to name the most important issue women face in the workplace, to which Nel-Peters responded the lack of equal pay. "I think we should have equal work for equal pay for women all over the world." Impressed by her answer and following her victory, Nel-Peters has earned a yearlong salary, a luxury apartment in New York city for the duration of her reign and many more, along with the title.  She is the second woman from her home country to earn the crown.
